Topic 1: Electricity

Electricity feels mysterious at first because you cannot watch it the way you can watch a bike move or water pour from a bottle. You mostly notice electricity by its results: a lamp turns on, a speaker makes sound, a phone charges, or a game console starts up. That can make electronics seem like magic, but it is not magic. It follows a few simple rules, and once those rules make sense, the rest of beginner electronics becomes much easier to understand.

A strong first picture is to imagine a closed loop of track. If there is a train on the track, it can only keep moving if the track forms a complete path. If a section of track is missing, the train cannot continue. A simple circuit works the same way. Electricity needs a complete path. If the path is broken anywhere, the flow stops

. Another helpful analogy is water in a pipe. Voltage is like pressure. It is the push that tries to move charge. Current is the actual flow. Resistance is anything that makes the flow harder. These are not perfect one-to-one matches, but they are good beginner pictures because they explain why some parts push, some parts carry, and some parts slow things down.

That idea leads to one of the biggest lessons in electronics: components do not just sit next to each other, they each play a role in the path. Wires connect the path, a power source provides push, and a component such as a light or motor uses that moving energy to do something visible. Once students understand that a circuit is a complete loop with jobs assigned along the way, electricity stops feeling random and starts feeling logical.
